- According to research carried out by Carers UK, 6 out of 10 carers providing substantial amounts of care, had given up paid work to care. In the same research, 7 out of 10 carers found themselves financially worse off since becoming a carer.
- There are an estimated 24,000 adults with caring responsibilities within the borough of Greenwich.
- Over 21,000 of these are caring for a relative.
- Over 12,900 care for someone over 75 years old.
- Over 6,000 are themselves retired.
- There are an estimated 2000 young carers under the age of 18 with caring responsibilities within the borough. Some of these carers are as young as 8 or 9.
