The Young Carers Service offers support to children and young people who take or share the responsibility for giving practical and/or emotional support to a parent, brother, sister or other family member who is suffering from a long-term or chronic illness, physical, sensory or learning disability; is experiencing a mental illness or is affected by drug or alcohol dependency or HIV/AIDS. We support any young carers who, usually, live within the borough of Greenwich and are aged between eight and seventeen. Young Carers are all different, boys or girls, child, teenager or young adult, different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, disabilities, religions, or academic abilities. Some young carers may feel happy to care for the person and some may feel it is their duty. We will respect all these differences. The Young Carers Service has been providing support to young carers and their families since 1995 and has been able to build up a comprehensive knowledge of young carers issues, as well as the expertise required to offer effective support to those young carers making use of our services. The Young Carers Service is part of the Greenwich Carers Centre, which was established in 1991 and is a registered charity. We are also connected to the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The services we offer are continually reviewed and updated according to the views, comments and changing needs of past and present users of the service and are delivered within our Confidentiality, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Complaints policies and guidelines.
